Accessibility Statement

Last updated: September 6, 2026

Our commitment

BirdSift should be usable by as many people as possible, including people who navigate with a keyboard, use a screen reader, rely on browser zoom or larger text, or prefer reduced motion.

This statement covers the marketing website at birdsift.com. The web app at app.birdsift.com and the BirdSift Chrome extension are held to the same intent but have not yet been assessed to the same standard. See “Known limitations” below.

Conformance status

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

birdsift.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. “Partially conformant” means most of the content meets the standard but some parts do not yet fully conform. We have not commissioned an independent third-party audit.

What we have done

Color contrast. Text and interface elements meet the 4.5:1 minimum for body text and 3:1 for large text and interface components. Our brand orange is reserved for decoration, and a darker variant is used wherever color carries text or sits behind it.

Reduced motion. Every animation on the site (the drifting birds, the hero sky, the animated search placeholder, the navigation menus) is switched off or simplified when your system or browser asks for reduced motion.

Keyboard access. Every page opens with a skip-to-content link, so you can jump the header navigation and land straight on the main content. Interactive controls can be reached and operated with a keyboard and show a visible focus indicator.

Structure and semantics. Pages use landmark regions, one main heading, headings in order, labelled form fields, alternative text on images, and a declared page language in both English and French.

Known limitations

Third-party live chat. Our support chat is provided by Crisp. We do not control its markup or behavior and have not assessed it against WCAG.

Third-party badges. Several directory badges in the footer are images served by other sites. They carry alternative text, but we do not control their contrast and they load without declared dimensions.

Web app and Chrome extension. app.birdsift.com and the extension have not been formally assessed. Improvements made here are being carried across, but we cannot state a conformance level for them yet.

How we assess. Our current assessment relies on automated tooling (Lighthouse and axe-core). Automated tools catch only part of what matters, so barriers may remain that we have not found.

Tell us about a barrier

If there is something on BirdSift you cannot use, we want to hear about it. A report from someone actually blocked by a problem is worth more to us than any audit.

Email support@birdsift.com with the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using. We aim to reply within five business days.

If we cannot fix something quickly, we will tell you the workaround and when to expect a real fix.
